LEANDRO SOUZA

Leandro Souza is a dance artist, Master in Performing Arts and Bachelor in Dance from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). His production is independently structured in the city of São Paulo. His works result from tangled processes of making, seeing and thinking about art, the transit through different languages ​​and knowledge, the investigation of unusual approaches to movement and the elaboration of procedures for choreographic creation and research. Shifting the established understanding of dance and testing the limits of the action of racialized and subalternized bodies in this field of art production are the axes that underlie his production. Among his works, the following stand out: We are Subtle, You are Explicit (2022), created with the support of local government open call Edital de Fomento à Dança by the city of São Paulo and  They Do Contemporary Dance (2019) supported by ProAC open call from the State of São Paulo, presented at the São Paulo International Theater Show (MITsp) and selected to integrate the program of the Histories of Dance exhibition, at the São Paulo Museum of Art (MASP) . Seisms and Volts (2018), a solo dance awarded with a prize by the São Paulo Association of Art Critics (APCA), in the interpretation category, presented at the SESC Dance Biennial, at the Encuentro Internacional de Arte Escénico Contemporáneo (EINCE), in Mexico and at the Contemporary Festival of São Paulo.
